About Fugitive Sister Productions

 Fugitive Sister Productions was founded by writer, director, and producer Maura Campbell — though “founded” makes it sound very tidy. In truth, it grew out of a life that refused to stay small. 

After raising four extraordinary children, surviving cancer (highly do not recommend, but deeply clarifying), and moving to New York City in her late sixties — because why not start a new chapter when most people are downsizing? — Maura decided it was time to build a home for the stories that wouldn’t leave her alone. 

Fugitive Sister Productions creates film, theatre, and new musicals about transformation — the messy, luminous, inconvenient kind. Our work centers women, outsiders, artists, immigrants, visionaries, and anyone who has ever felt like they were living between worlds. We are drawn to stories about identity, reinvention, love across boundaries, and the courage it takes to step into your own voice. 

In the last four years alone, Fugitive Sister has developed internationally recognized independent films, bold new stage works, and deeply personal projects that blur the line between memoir and myth. We collaborate across generations and cultures, working with composers, actors, and filmmakers who believe art should be alive — not polite. 

We believe storytelling is reclamation.
We believe reinvention has no expiration date.
And we believe it’s never too late to begin again.
